Organisational Culture and Sustainability

A CR&S strategy is strongest when it is supported by a culture that enables sustainability, when culture and strategy are aligned, organisations are far better placed to deliver lasting impact. In this technique we will explore what organisational culture is, how to understand it using established models, and why it is decisive for sustainability.

Technique Overview

Organisational Culture and Sustainability Definition

Organisational culture is the shared set of values, beliefs, assumptions, norms, and behaviours that shape how people in an organisation think and act. Often summarised as “how we do things around here.” It is largely invisible and operates below the surface of formal strategy and policy, yet it powerfully influences whether those strategies are lived out in practice. A sustainability culture is one in which responsible values and behaviours are embedded at this deep level, so that acting responsibly becomes the natural, expected way of working rather than an imposed requirement.
