British Values

British Values Definition

Values are fundamental beliefs that govern our behaviour and attitudes in important ways. They are of central importance in leading people and creating a positive and open environment. According to the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (OFSTED), the Fundamental British Values (FBV) are democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty and mutual respect; and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. These values come with an encouragement to respect other people, particularly the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010.
