Procurement policies refer to long-lasting statements of guidance (CIMA, 2005) that apply to and bind directors, managers and employees in any situation where they are involved in a purchasing process (CIPS: Purchasing Policy and Procedures). A standard refers to collective work created by bringing together the expertise and experience of all interested parties, for example, manufacturers, sellers, buyers, users and regulators of a particular material, product, process or service (CIPS: Standards in Procurement).
