Industry Life Cycle Definition

The Industry Life Cycle (ILC) model aims to integrate technological, firm and industry evolution in terms of trajectories and outcomes that can be exogenously observed (Suarez & Utterback 1995; Klepper, 2002, in Rice & Galvin, 2006). Rice and Galvin further explain that the ILC and Product Life Cycle (also in BusinessBrief) are often used interchangeably. The ILC model tends to focus on aggregate industry development, whereas the PLC focuses on the product-level trends.
