Competitive Intelligence Definition

The term Competitive Intelligence (CI) commonly entails the compilation of data by organisations, from external sources, that assists in improving an organisation’s performance (Babbar & Rai, 1993). CI can be defined as the art of collecting, analysing, processing and storing information and is firmly rooted in the notion that increased understanding of competitors’ strengths and weaknesses leads to more effective strategy formulation (Bernhardt, 1994; Rouach & Santi, 2001). CI is both a process and a product.
